This week we got our first peek at the Bake Off hopefuls lined up to delight us with their good crumbs and splendid laminations. Returning to our screens on Tuesday 27th August, who’d have guessed a TV show about people baking cakes would have garnered such affection from the UK public? Maybe in this troubled world of Brexit, climate change and Trump tweets we all need a little gingham oasis of cakey loveliness where Paul Hollywood’s blue eyes twinkle and the worst that could happen is a soggy bottom. Not that there isn’t a subversive undertone what with a steady stream of filthy innuendo and Prue Leith wearing a gag ball in plain sight.
This year we’re starting with a baker’s dozen and harnessing a younger demographic with over half of the contestants in their 20s. So look out for unnecessary flourishes such as spelt, chia and hemp making a left field appearance in a “woke” scone recipe.
Whether it’s a Greggs jam doughnut, dad’s apple pie or one of those posh French confectioneries, we all love a cake. Celebrate this glorious concoction of sugar and spice and all things nice with a sweet treat from our vectorbomb Baking collection.
